The National Navigation Award Scheme (Course Dates)

In association with the British Sports Council, The British Orienteering Federation,
Harvey and Recta (navigation compasses, maps and equipment).

Accredited by the National Navigation Award Scheme, MW Guiding Services
is able to provide navigation courses which are structured with two goals in mind:
firstly to enable you to enjoy great days out mastering the mysteries of mountain
navigation. So, apart from a few hours at the start, most of the course will be conducted out on the hills.

During the course you will cover most aspects of map reading (scales, symbols and contour lines), route planning and route finding. You'll be taught how to use your compass and roamer and have plenty of practice taking bearings, estimating distances and other tricks of the trade.

The second goal is for those wishing a more
formal recognition of their achievements: the chance to be assessed at an appropriate level for the National Navigation Award. Every successful candidate will be given either the Bronze, Silver or Gold Certificate and badge.

Two day courses (theory and outdoor practicals) will be held at Craig-y-Nos Country Park, tutored by Mike Lloyd-Wood (ML) of M W Guiding Services. Please contact MW Guiding for availability of the Bronze, Silver and Gold level courses being run in 2008

The cost per candidate is £25.00 per day, 10.00am - 4.00pm.

* Note that courses will only run with a minimum of 6 candidates*
